The Houghton Trust is offering Research Mobility Awards to support short-term staff exchanges for young researchers in avian diseases. These will allow training and personal development in a laboratory other than the applicant’s own to learn new techniques or collaborate in research in areas not available in his or her own place of work. The scheme relies on agreement between heads of the home and hosting laboratories and the purpose of the application must be outlined in detail, including expected benefits such as enhanced expertise, publications or future collaboration.
The awards are for either UK-based or overseas-based researchers, but there must be at least one UK partner (i.e., either the hosting or the researcher’s home institution). Awards will normally be for periods not exceeding two months.
The maximum amount that can be claimed is £10,000 to cover accommodation, travel and consumables. The allowance will not cover bench fees and the salary would be expected to be paid by the home institution. After such an experience, the applicant will submit a final report to the Houghton Trust (maximum 600 words) on the work and a final report on spending.
